AboutOur MissionTo establish, maintain and promote a network for the empowerment and advancement of Latina/Latino alumni, students, faculty and staff at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and within the community at large Our HistoryThe University of Illinois Latina/Latino Alumni Association (IllinoisLLAA) was informally established in late 2008 and then formally recognized as an affiliate of the University of Illinois Alumni Association in mid-2009. Led in its first year by a combined Steering Committee/Board of Directors, bylaws, functional committees and an Executive Board of Directors were established. Currently, we have achieved 501(c)(3) status and have a Board of Directors. The organization is actively recruiting members and is developing dynamic programming based on member needs. We have been working diligently to establish a strong foundation for an association that will reflect the strength and varied experiences of the Latina/Latino community at and from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana campus. We acknowledge the sacrifices that our predecessors have made, and we appreciate the family members, friends, fellow students, faculty and community members who have shared our struggles and accomplishments throughout our years on campus and who continue their support even after our departure from campus. We understand that our success is the result of much support and personal effort, and as a result, we have formed to give our support to each other, to current students, and to our communities—locally, on campus, and globally. We invite you and challenge you to assist us in this great task as we build a coalition of Illinois Latina/Latino Alumni and friends. With enormous pride, we observe the immense amount of talent among our people, our community, and our alumni. We have already begun to leave our legacies. |
